1.     Choose the Right Video

Choose the Right VideoThere are thousands upon thousands of videos on any given topic on the Internet, and not all of them will be well suited for a classroom. To find the right one, try to use certain keywords that describe your audience. For example, “video on Mars for 4th Graders.” The more specific you get, the more likely you’ll find the right video, so take a little time out and research the videos on the web. Also, don’t just use YouTube, Google your topic and see what other sources have videos.

2.     Make a Strong Introduction

You need to build up to the moment of screening; Let anticipation simmer in the air. You can focus on the pertinent information by spending little time introducing the video and what points it will convey.

3.     Find a Video that is Simple & Short

The length of the video matters a lot. Too short and the students will be left confused. Too long and they will get bored and distracted. While researching the video, make sure that its subject justifies it length. If the length cannot be helped, and you don’t want to expose your students to too long of a video, you can show the video in short burst clips about 7 to 15 minutes long. You can open the discussion panel in between or choose to show different clips throughout the day.

4.     Ensure that You Have the Proper Equipment

The quality of the video is completely dependent on the type of equipment you will be utilizing. Before showing the video to your class, do a test-run. Play the video and check its quality along with the quality of the sound and observe whether it’s apt or not. If you find it questionable, then you need to get better equipment otherwise the whole experience will feeling lacking.

5.     Reflect on the Overall Experience

Reflect on the Overall ExperienceAllow the students to openly discuss everything. You can open up topics regarding the video experience like: Did you like learning through video? How was the quality of the video? What didn’t you like about the video? What was your favorite shot in the video?
